Circular Reasoning
Circular Reasoning
Often evolutionists will use the similarities between organisms as
evidence for evolution. One person wrote to me that every developmental
gene found in humans has also been found in the housefly, as if this
was supposed to convince me of something (if it is true). However,
let us look at the reasoning. If evolution were true, then similarities
between organisms could be evidence of common descent. Even then, this
need not be true, because of "convergent evolution." Now, an
evolutionist becomes accustomed to seeing common features as evidence
of common descent. So he or she is then likely to present the
similarities between life forms as evidence that they all descended
from a common ancestor, thereby proving evolution. However, it is
readily seen that the reasoning is circular. A Designer could just
as well use a common theme repeatedly if it is most suitable for some
purpose.
